THE HISTORY ABOUT CHICORA
In the early 1900s, Greenville called Boggs Street (where you find our wheelchair access entrance in the back) by the name of Chicora Street. In fact, Chicora College campus comprised the land stretching from Camperdown to River Street, all right behind our Chicora Alley building.
The word chicora is a Native American word that means Land of the Healing Breeze. In 1995, the General Assembly of South Carolina declared April 20th Chicora Indian Day. About a decade later, Chicora Alley Downtown opened their doors to create a local Falls Park sensation.
After walking the beautiful Reedy River area, tourists and local regulars alike come enjoy our flavorful island food, weekly live music shows like the Greenville Jazz Collective and refreshing beer, wine and cocktails. Meanwhile, our Sunday brunch offers a hearty, delicious way for your family to rejuvenate in the midst of a local retail shopping weekend in our lovely downtown Greenville area.
Our downtown venue can accomodate guests in a secondary separate dining area with a full bar of its own, for surplus seating during days and for our musical performances at night. Guests freely wander between the two areas, unless that space has been reserved for catering and hosting private parties and events.
